On the Issues

Jobs and Taxes

Minnesota continues to face difficult decisions and has not been forward thinking. We need a balanced solution to solve our financial strain that allows for creativity and responsibility in our spending habits. If we continue to have a policy to not increase taxes yet increase spending, and then make decisions to cut spending in areas that ultimately increase taxes locally, we will only add to the current deficit and hold our state at a “business as usual” stance. We need a sustainable and strategic approach that will continue to support the public from an investment, working class, and social service standpoint. We need solutions for every Minnesotan. More

Education

Amy knows one of the best ways to ensure our students receive a competitive education is by making sure we have high-quality, responsive, and culturally competent teachers in our classrooms and administrators in our schools who engage decision makers at all levels in making choices for our children’s education. More

Child Welfare

Making sure the children in our communities are safe should be a top priority for our state. Amy supports legislation that strengthens laws for crimes against children and makes sure programs needed for children are fully funded. We need to reform and refinance our child welfare system so it protects the children involved in the system. More

Housing and Economic Development

Amy is opposed to additional mandates on local government that only increase taxes and fees and pass the expense along to families and cause local entities to decrease services necessary for safety and basic needs. Amy will review and work on legislation to modify, or repeal these mandates where possible and believes there should be flexibility, when possible, in the implementation of absolute mandates so the cost can be minimized. Health Care

Amy knows we need a health care system that works better. In the current biennium the state of Minnesota is spending slightly over $7 billion, and is estimating an increase of over 30% in the next biennium with more increases on the horizon. Minnesotans want a health care system that gets costs under control, delivers quality care, and provides affordable access for everyone. Amy supports solutions that manage the rising costs of health care, expand access that is affordable, and maintain quality of our health care services including mental health services for children and adults. Environment

Minnesota should be a national leader in reversing the pollution of our lakes and streams, diversifying our energy sources, preventing damage to the environment, and reinforcing economic competitiveness. Amy believes we need to diversify our energy sources and promote energy independence through a greater reliance on clean, renewable resources, and continue Minnesota’s strong tradition of environmental stewardship that partners with practical economic considerations. More

Transportation

Amy understands that sustainable economic growth depends on a comprehensive transportation system that maintains the roads Minnesota has built and improves the system capacity with timely investment. Farmers, manufacturers, commuters, and other travelers all need reliable transportation, or productivity suffers and we all pay more. More

Civil Rights / Criminal Justice System

Protecting our civil and constitutional rights is essential to our safety and opportunity to engage. Amy will advocate keeping funding in our public defense budget and will work with the judicial and corrections departments to explore the broadening of community court models, restorative justice practices, and alternative sentences for people experiencing mental health disorders and chemical dependency.
